PHILANTHROPY

Community involvement is very important to our sorority. Throughout the year, Delta Zeta raises funds for our philanthropies, including Gallaudet University, Starkey Hearing Foundation, House and Ear Institute, and The Painted Turtle Camp. The sorority organizes an annual family weekend to celebrate achievements with our families. Delta Zeta members volunteer at local nursing homes, animal shelters, elementary schools, raise money for the American Cancer Society, Children's Miracle Network and volunteer in many other ways.

Delta Zeta’s national philanthropy is speech and hearing. Our national philanthropy are the Starkey Hearing Foundation and the Painted Turtle Camp. Our local philanthropy is Dance Marathon.

Starkey Hearing Foundation

The Starkey Hearing Foundation provides hearing aids to those that are in financial need. Members of Delta Zeta fundraise money for this foundation to help pay for hearing aids for the less fortunate that can not afford them. The Starkey Hearing Foundation has given over 1.1 million hearing aids to people in over 108 countries across the globe.

The Painted Turtle Camp

The Painted Turtle Camp provides a free summer camp to over 17,500 children who cannot attend a traditional camp in California due to their serious illness. The camp supports campers with over 30 different terminal illnesses. The Painted Turtle Camp gives these kids the chance to do things they never thought they could do, like horseback riding or swimming, with their terminal illness. One of our very own members has attended the Painted Turtle Camp and came back with such heart fulfilling stories and the most rewarding experiences.

Dance Marathon

Western Illinois hosts a 12 hour dance marathon that raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. All members participate in this event along with other sororities and organizations on campus. Delta Zeta was the top fundraising team in 2022 and raised about $13,000 for the event and Western Illinois in total raised $52,018.19!

Philanthropy Events

The philanthropy events that we host on campus to help raise money for both our national and local philanthropy’s are Gettin' Cheesy with Dee Zee and Hoops For Hearing.

Gettin' Cheesy with Dee Zee is a mac and cheese night held at the Delta Zeta house. Hoops for Hearing is a 3x3 Men’s basketball tournament.
